My Blog?

My Name is Susie, I'm 17 years of age and live in the lively city of Portland, hence the name. I'm brand new to the world of blogging so let's give it a go. I'll try to write about what I know which is dance, style, music, being young, and the terrible world which is high school. Stay tuned and maybe I'll catch your fancy.

We're almost there...

Marrekesh- Northwest Portland

Vendu Crab Shack- Hollywood boardwalk, Florida

The Jams of June: Lazy Eye- Silversun Pickups, Map of the World- Monsters of Folk, The Ruminant Band- Fruit Bats

We're almost done. Two more days of finals, and I am free as a bird. A bird that must return to their nest for two more years in order to graduate and get into NYU...that is. I have been cheating you, blog, for I promised to write at least two posts after my trip and did not...my apologies. But the way I see it, for the rest of the month I will have more then enough time on my hands to write posts. And won't we all be thrilled to see "Petite Portlandian" links filling up our newsfeeds. A lot has gone on since my last post and many ideas have filled my head of great things to blog about however, by the time I sit at my keyboard...it's gone. So, following my single tracked mind I will write about what is on the tip of my tongue, as of right now. So. New York is quickly approaching (!!!) I've decided to step it up a notch on my day to day clothing choices. While I'm rarely happy with an outfit, recently I've been shaping things up, lets just say it's my final for school year fashion. But to be honest people at school could care less about what I wear, after all I'm the girl who always seems "too dressed up" for school and looks like a moron...oh well. It will be my dying day before I wear Lincoln Cardinal Sweats to school ladies. So I do have some photos below of my pitiful attempt to look somewhat individual. Also...I have attached pictures of what I've been up to in the month of June, thus far. That includes, Florida, and exotic Moroccan restaurants in our in little city. Due to my overwhelming sleepiness I think I'll make this post a two-parter. That is, if my eyelids resist the urge to shut..

Shirt: Bought in a childrens shop in Ashland, OR

Skirt: Little Marc Jacobs (Yes, I still manage to fit into children's sizes, and if it means $100 off a Marc by Marc Jacobs skirt...it's a blessing)

Belt: Father's closet

Bag: Longchamp (not too orignal, I know.)

Shoes: Target (I love deals...)

Pull over: TNA, Dress: Forever 21, Tights: Betsey Johnson, Boots: Ferragamo, Bag: Local store on Hawthorne

Trendspotting (creative title isn't it?)

Currently Listening to: Creator- Santigold (I swear she was originally Santogold), Twilight- Elliott Smith, Crystalised- The xx, Animal- Miike Snow

I came home from ballet today too tired to do anything of use and too bored for my own good. I thought I'd blog, though I have nothing to blog on at this moment besides stress, which honestly...who gives a shit about my stress? And why would that ever be captivating to read about? On a brighter note, I will be in tropical Florida next weekend visiting family (quite a drastic change from rainy Portland weather). So, I thought I'd be on the lookout for bright spring/ summer pieces and found some delicious looks courtesy of teen vogue. I have to admit how much I adore teen vogue, the layouts are excellent and a handful of photos caught my eye. Even better are the clothes, currently I can't resist a pair of floral print leggings or leather high waisted shorts....

Contrastingly, TNA and Talula never fail to inspire me...

In the land of ash...

Music: Yesterday- The Beatles, Idiotheque- Calico Horse (cover), When you love somebody- Fruit Bats...I'm listening to nearly everything on my new playlist above, check it out.

I decided to take this Saturday night to spend time alone with The O.C. re-runs, Hagen Daaz coffee ice cream (my vice), and my keyboard. I actually find it quite nice to be doing nothing tonight, as I have been running low on sleep the past week. After returning from an overnight trip to Ashland, I'm looking forward to 12 hours of sleep, which I haven't had in weeks. This summer weather is helping me make believe that it's nearly summer. It's about that time of the year where the closeness of summer is the only thing keeping me from an outburst of rage in that claustrophobic portable during algebra. However, the weeks are getting slimmer and I have nice little distractions along the way such as, my trip to Ashland. During the trip we saw three plays, found some rad dinosaur t-shirts, ate...too much, and layed by the creek soaking up the sun. One play that really stuck with me was Tennessee William's Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, it was a captivating play about sex, lies, and a dysfunctional family. I was really enticed by the theme of old southern money in the 1950's and the luxurious characters that fit into the story, especially the character Maggie. Above you can see an image from an older film version and below are a few photos from Ashland.

What started out as capturing Portland's style, turned into a sunny day in the northwest.

Music: The xx, The Helio Sequence, Werewolf- Coco Rosie and Trunk- Kings of Leon...while listening to these tunes I'm snacking on a chocolate bagel, If you've never tried one I highly suggest you do.
Today it was bright and sunny and even more appalling, it was warm. So I pulled out my sunglasses, my pale bare legs, and my cannon rebel to go on an expedition with a few friends. The purpose of this outing was first to find eclectic Portland styles, however being the easily distracted child I am, we stayed in Northwest exploring vintage shops. We came across many knick-knacks (I can't believe I just used that word) that deserved to be photographed. My favorite things we discovered this weekend were probably the peanut butter and jelly sandwich stand and vintage lengerie. As always, I am in dire need for summer. I WANT TO BE IN NEW YORK. But that will have to wait. Lucky for me, I'm going on a school trip to Ashland this week and that way I will be able to free myself from that god-awful prison...somewhat. I Imagine I will be photographing nearly everything in Ashland and checking out the charming little vintage shops. Let's pray the weather is decent. In the mean time... here are photos from yesterday.

And what is the theme of this post?

This photo screams summertime...I need it so badly!

Tuneage: Same as previous post from this weekend..plus an awful lot of Passion Pit and some Bikini Kill

So here are some pictures I took along with some really neat things I found on this world wide web. I suppose you could call this "inspiration"? I just was really fascinated by these images...

Once again, along the lines of the 1920's (this is probably due to my constant procrastination of writing my Great Gastby essay and blogging instead...)

A photo from a '59 Dior ad.

I adore this picture, why? I have no clue. I love the style...

So I saw this image and was inspired to go to the local saturday market...on a sunday.

There were really great ethnic bags, bangles, and rings at the market, as well as a plenty Hindu prayer bowls..

Celine and I also came upon a box of kittens for sale...

...They were unavoidably cute.

The cool kids in town.

I always wished I was best friends with Ferris...

Songs on repeat: Rain On and Night Creature- Woods. Service Bell- Fiest & Grizzly Bear. To be alone with you- Sufjan Stevens. Mad World- Michael Andrews.
We all have them, those gorgeous people that you can't help but rave about. It's different for everyone, whether it's a group of people you would kill to belong to, or that one girl you wish you could be, there is always somebody to envy. Eventually, we learn that these people aren't quite as fabulous as they seem, but in high school there seems to be that feeling that there is always someone better than you. One day, while pondering this phenomenon I asked my friends, "Do you have that group of people you wish you could be friends with? Or that one person that is so cool you just feel totally fucked in comparison to?" It seemed like everyone knew what I was talking about. It was different for each person I talked to but it came down to this: There is always someone you wish you could be somewhat like, or at least hope to be friends with. They usually consist of something we all hope to see in ourselves, we think that possibly if we could be friends with them, the "coolness" will rub off. The truth of this matter is, no matter how beautiful these people may seem, there is always someone better, someone who they wish they could be like too. As much as we hate to admit it, the cool kids really aren't as cool as we hope, and we truly are all in the same boat. To soak up the glamour of the classic cool kids, I have some images of the most fabulous people from the movies.

In honor of Sophmore English, The 1974 version of The Great Gatsby. I adore the 1920's fashion.
From a personal favorite, Dazed and Confused. Which reminds me, I have yet to find the perfect pair of high waisted shorts...

The Breakfast Club has some of the coolest kids of all time, and I am not talking about Molly Ringwald, Brian is probably the greatest nerd you'll ever see.

...Do you even have to ask?

Wishing you love, sunshine and all that's good.
