My Blog?

My Name is Susie, I'm 17 years of age and live in the lively city of Portland, hence the name. I'm brand new to the world of blogging so let's give it a go. I'll try to write about what I know which is dance, style, music, being young, and the terrible world which is high school. Stay tuned and maybe I'll catch your fancy.

Trendspotting (creative title isn't it?)

Currently Listening to: Creator- Santigold (I swear she was originally Santogold), Twilight- Elliott Smith, Crystalised- The xx, Animal- Miike Snow

I came home from ballet today too tired to do anything of use and too bored for my own good. I thought I'd blog, though I have nothing to blog on at this moment besides stress, which honestly...who gives a shit about my stress? And why would that ever be captivating to read about? On a brighter note, I will be in tropical Florida next weekend visiting family (quite a drastic change from rainy Portland weather). So, I thought I'd be on the lookout for bright spring/ summer pieces and found some delicious looks courtesy of teen vogue. I have to admit how much I adore teen vogue, the layouts are excellent and a handful of photos caught my eye. Even better are the clothes, currently I can't resist a pair of floral print leggings or leather high waisted shorts....

Contrastingly, TNA and Talula never fail to inspire me...

In the land of ash...

Music: Yesterday- The Beatles, Idiotheque- Calico Horse (cover), When you love somebody- Fruit Bats...I'm listening to nearly everything on my new playlist above, check it out.

I decided to take this Saturday night to spend time alone with The O.C. re-runs, Hagen Daaz coffee ice cream (my vice), and my keyboard. I actually find it quite nice to be doing nothing tonight, as I have been running low on sleep the past week. After returning from an overnight trip to Ashland, I'm looking forward to 12 hours of sleep, which I haven't had in weeks. This summer weather is helping me make believe that it's nearly summer. It's about that time of the year where the closeness of summer is the only thing keeping me from an outburst of rage in that claustrophobic portable during algebra. However, the weeks are getting slimmer and I have nice little distractions along the way such as, my trip to Ashland. During the trip we saw three plays, found some rad dinosaur t-shirts, ate...too much, and layed by the creek soaking up the sun. One play that really stuck with me was Tennessee William's Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, it was a captivating play about sex, lies, and a dysfunctional family. I was really enticed by the theme of old southern money in the 1950's and the luxurious characters that fit into the story, especially the character Maggie. Above you can see an image from an older film version and below are a few photos from Ashland.

What started out as capturing Portland's style, turned into a sunny day in the northwest.

Music: The xx, The Helio Sequence, Werewolf- Coco Rosie and Trunk- Kings of Leon...while listening to these tunes I'm snacking on a chocolate bagel, If you've never tried one I highly suggest you do.
Today it was bright and sunny and even more appalling, it was warm. So I pulled out my sunglasses, my pale bare legs, and my cannon rebel to go on an expedition with a few friends. The purpose of this outing was first to find eclectic Portland styles, however being the easily distracted child I am, we stayed in Northwest exploring vintage shops. We came across many knick-knacks (I can't believe I just used that word) that deserved to be photographed. My favorite things we discovered this weekend were probably the peanut butter and jelly sandwich stand and vintage lengerie. As always, I am in dire need for summer. I WANT TO BE IN NEW YORK. But that will have to wait. Lucky for me, I'm going on a school trip to Ashland this week and that way I will be able to free myself from that god-awful prison...somewhat. I Imagine I will be photographing nearly everything in Ashland and checking out the charming little vintage shops. Let's pray the weather is decent. In the mean time... here are photos from yesterday.
